Today is my G's 2nd birthday!! It is hard to believe that he is two and even harder to believe that he is now, officially, a toddler. Yesterday, we had cake & ice cream with the grandparents. Grandma came in from Blue Ridge for the festivities and Nonnie & Pop came over too, armed with a birthday singing Elmo balloon (identical to one he received last year and probably loves even more this year!). Godmother JJ was sorely missed but we understand how busy she is!
We opened presents first, which was hysterical. Nonnie & Pop gave him a pretty cool track set for Tonka cars, which he loved and didn't want to stop playing with it to open his other presents. Grandma gave him some pants and puzzles. One puzzle is a train and when you move the middle piece it blows the horn. cute. D & I saved some presents that were unopened from Christmas (left them in their Christmas Elmo paper) for G's birthday. So, he opened this fabulous Dance Cam. He LOVES it. You hook it up to the TV and it plays music for you to dance with, and it has a built-in camera that displays your dance-off on the TV. It was hysterical. (Our first televised image was of Pop's behind!) G was a dancing fool with that thing. It will be a great thing to have on rainy days for some energy release.
After the presents, we had cake and ice cream which was a lot of fun. Many funny faces for the camera. Later we had pizza. Backwards I know, but Grandma forgot her medicine so she had to drive back to Blue Ridge before it got dark. He was exhausted from all the excitement and still a wee bit tired from the ear infection recovery, so he slept well all night long. ;)
Today, D & I took cupcakes for his class at daycare. This totally ruined his routine, so I regret going. Not to mention the fact that I was frosting 30+ cupcakes at 6 am this morning!! He wouldn't eat, kept burying his head into the crook of my shoulder and trying to lead me to the door to escape. When he saw the cupcakes though... his mood was much better! I took pictures of him eating his cupcake as well as each of the other kids for his memory book. One little girl was so excited that she jumped up and down shouting, "I love them, I love them!" so cute. As left though.... things turned ugly. There was the square mouth scream and big tears, but his favorite teacher grabbed him up to comfort him. Bless him.
Lesson of the day: 2 is not a big number. You want to be big as 2, jumping around, talking, playing with your new racetrack. But at the end of the day, you still want your mommy and still want to be a baby. So, maybe just because G is 2, I haven't lost the baby in him just yet.
