Bye Bye Bebe

As much as we hated G's blasted pacifier, the minute that he would cry or when it was bedtime, we looked for it as much as he did. We did gradually decrease usage of the "bebe", but it was still "needed." Well, Saturday, June 6th, after breakfast I picked up G's bebe and noticed that he had bit a whole in it. Nice. So, I showed him the holes and told him that it was broken. I asked him to throw it away. He walked to the kitchen, opened the trash and threw the bebe in. Wow - no battle, no hiding, no resistance. At nap time, he asked for the bebe a couple of times and I reminded him that it was broken and he had thrown it away. His response, "Bye bye, bebe."

It was the same story at bedtime, and although it took FOREVER to get him settled down for bed and nap, it was bebe free!!!!!! Amazing. This whole time I was terrified that he would be up all night and scarred for life, it wasn't that terrible. He has started loving on a stuffed giraffe that before he never even acknowledged. Poor giraffe has no stuffing left in his neck from the strangle hold that G has on him, but he doesn't drag it around the house or insist that it leave the house with him. phew.

It has been so nice to be bebe free. Occasionally he will ask for it. I just remind him that bebe is broken and that he threw it away. Usually he just responds in this funny voice, half crying, half laughing, "Bye bye, bebe." Amen, G.
