Bookin' It - still!

Over the last year or so, I have been reading voraciously!  Right now I don't have the attention span to complete any task, let alone settle in with a book but prior to that....  woowzers, I read a ton of books.  Some good, some fantastic, some not-so-great, some mindless, and some not worth bothering.  Here is what I have read since I last updated my reading list:

~ Night by Elie Wiesel (powerful, surprised this wasn't required in school)
~ The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows (interesting format;      has romance, drama, and history all wrapped into one)
~ The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch (written for the children of a man dying from cancer, advice we can all benefit from; really enjoyed it)
~ The Rain Before It Falls by Jonathan Cole (interesting writing style, lack luster story)
~ Captivating by Jogn & Staci Eldredge (Bible study selection; I don't think that I was "damaged" enough to benefit from it, which is okay with me)
~ South of Broad by Pat Conroy (Sadly disappointing, unrealistic dialogue, predictable)
~ Stori Telling by Tori Spelling (mush but entertaining)
~ Magic Hour by Kristen Hannah (great beach read)
~ The Kite Runner by Khaled Husseini (this was a re-read for me; heartbreaking; well written; eye opening)
~ An Ordinary Man by Paul Rusesabagina (real life account that inspired Hotel Rwanda; excellent background on what led to the genocide)
~ The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold (another re-read for me, this time even better; amazing, powerful)
~ Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout (beautiful story telling; loved the style; amazing character development)
~ True Blood series by Charlaine Harris: Dead Until Dark, Living Dead in Dallas, Club Dead, Dead to the World, Dead as a Doornail, Definitely Dead, All Together Dead, From Dead to Worse, Dead and Gone, and Dead in the Family (vampire drama at it's best!)
~ While My Sister Sleeps by Barbara Delinsky (chick lit at it's best)
~ The Christmas Box by Richard Paul Evans (good holiday read; great reminder of what life is all about)
~ The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho (had to bribe myself to finish; hated the first 2/3 of the book; way over hyped)
~ Why Do Lobsters Turn Red When You Cook Them? by Herve This (stocking stuffer book, interesting tidbits)
~ No Other Gods by Kelly Minter (Bible study selection; excellent at weaving OT & NT scripture into relevant lessons)
~ The Paris Vendetta by Steve Berry (always enjoy Steve Berry's books, this one did not let me down)
~ The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein (gripping, emotional, funny, sad, wonderful)
~ The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks (beach read)
~ A Marian Bible Study by Laura Wells (excellent Catholic Bible Study with an in depth look at Mary)
~ Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford (incredible story, well written, fabulous read)
~ The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde (long character monologuing; predictable but "edgy" considering when it was first published)
~ All We Ever Wanted Was Everything by Janelle Brown (chick lit)
~ The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest by Steig Larsson (Swedish author, quick read; interesting)
~ Family Tree by Barbara Delinsky (racism and family history woven into chick lit)
~ The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger (I had tried previously to read this and found it too graphic; well written mix of science fiction, romance, and drama)
~ Jenny and the Jaws of Life by Jincy Willett (short story collection; didn't finish; disturbing)
~ The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry (obviously a freshman novel; too many ideas left it difficult to read)
~ Balancing Acts by Zoe Fishman (written by a high school friend; quite enjoyable; interesting characters)
~ Blood Orange by Druscilla Campbell (enjoyable mush)
~ Dark Places by Gillian Flynn (probably my favorite read of the year; excellent page turner; unexpected twists and turns)
~ Angelology by Danielle Trussoni (wanted this to be my favorite but it wasn't even close; intriguing subject matter; too wordy, redundant)
~ Whistling in the Dark by Lesley Kagen (sympathetic, empathetic, sadly endearing characters; good story with great writing)
~ Freakonomics by Steven Levitt & Stephen Dubner (I know, I should have read this years ago but I didn't; easy to read; interesting concepts)
~ What Matters Most by Nicole Bokat (didn't like it; uncomfortable at time; unrealistic dialog of a child)
~ Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger (a little predictable at times but dramatic twists at times too; totally worth reading)
~ The Bible Salesman by Clyde Edgerton (humorous; well written)
~ Courageous Love by Stacy Mitch (Catholic women's Bible study; some lessons I didn't like but probably because they came a little close to home!)

And other than I have read bits & pieces of pregnancy books, trying to remind myself of what is "normal" and what is not! Hope that there are some books that strike you as interesting!
